Sarah Slept decent last night and that was the first time I have heard that in a while.
Today was another tough day, not that we weren't expecting that. The last few days have been very uneventful as far as Sarah and I doing things go. Sarah spends most of the day laying in bed and sleeping, today was much of the same. The last few days Sarah has been getting blood to replenish her low platelets as well as her low hemoglobin, today was no different. Today was the last day that she was to receive methotrexate, but due to bleeding and soreness in her mouth the doctors decided to skip this last dose of chemo, they told us that that would be the last of the chemo. We hope that they are right with that. So this afternoon they injected Sarah in the tummy with something they called a growth factor, it will help speed up the stem cell growth. This still doesn't really change the timeline we are looking at though, they said she would get these for a couple or three days. Tomorrow could be another rough day and then things should start to slowly improve. I think we both cannot wait for the nurse to come in this room and write numbers that are on the upward trend, that will be a happy day. Sarah did manage to get up and go for a few laps around the unit with me, it was nice to see her up and walking. Sarah's mouth is still a mess, I would post pictures but I promise you that it is something you don't want to see. Tomorrow is another day, and as things get better so will the blog posts.

Kurt, I can just hear your voice through your words, a sad monotone. We feel so helpless, all we can do is pray for continued strength for both of you and of course for progress. I hope that tomorrow it might be 6 laps together. We'll be thinking about both of you as we get together for Thanksgiving; we still have a lot to be thankful for - especially a son and daughter like the both of you.

SO hope that the upswing comes really soon for you Sarah! Have a blessed Thanksgiving. It's not really about turkey and pumpkin pie, but the things we have to be thankful for. And no matter the situation, we have blessings. Next year will come and you can enjoy all that good Thanksgiving food and have even more to be thankful for!....God bless! Evelyn
ReplyDeleteHey guys, hang in there for that special day when you will see the improvements in the blood work and the sore and painful mouth and throat. We are truly giving this over to our heavenly Father and praying for His loving and healing hand in all this. Those docs and staff really were not kidding when they told you Sarah, what to expect in those 12 upcoming days shortly after the transplant of cells. Kurt you must be such a great support to her when the chips are down. Its already a good sign that Sarah is getting up to do some "laps" around the unit.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good spirit. God bless you. Grace C
Hey Sarah & Kurt,
ReplyDeleteWell it's Thanksgiving....one spent like never before...
as i have read these blogs each night, i can't help but notice how strong & positive you two have been for each other. You truely are each other's strength. You're both so focused! Keep that up.
Soon enough those numbers will start their 'upward trend". Hang in there!
We love you & miss you,
Elaine & Dale.
It's Thanksgiving morning and who could guess a year ago that this is where we would be. Yet as I lay in bed this morning I thought of a lot of things to be thankful for. Thank God for your family, Especially Cael, becuase at the end of your pregnancy with him your luekimia was detected. Thanks be for doctors and nurses and cleaning staff (happy Spanish guy) and everyone that makes your stay in the hospital more comfortable and safe. Be thankful for the excellent facility that the Tom Baker Center is and the procedures that they can perform thre. Be mostly thankful that we have a God that know us by name. When everything gets complicated and busy its important to have the simple faith of a child. I thought of this verse this morning and thought it might lift your spirits. God sees the little sparrow fall. It heeds His tender view. If God so loves the little birds, I Know He loves YOU too!Have a good day today and we'll miss you lots. Thinking of you always.
ReplyDeleteHugs and kisses Sarah :)

We just got back from the farm and feel big and fat from all of the Thanksgiving food. Actually managed to go for a walk with my brother and wife and Derk in the bush some miles from his home in Neerlandia. It was a lovely day and we enjoyed the beauty of nature, birds singing, and the moose pits and wallows that were dug into the bush floor/ground. Pretty amazing how animals live/play/act in the rut/etc. My brother actually "called" for a moose too, but us girls were thankful nothing came pounding our way!!! We were checking out available trees to climb just in case it happened. ;o)
ReplyDeleteThanking God for your positive courageous attitudes and pray for continued healing for pain, for normal eating patterns to appear soon, and for counts to start on their upward journey!! What joy that will be!!
There are times when God expresses His care for us through others. May you feel your spirits being bouyed up by the many prayers lifted up on your behalf and through the love shown to you and Kurt and family in so many special ways. Sleep well.
Kurt and Sarah, Stay strong...it's pretty amazing to read your family and friends comments so full of love and prayers. We think of you often! Jeanet & Family
